Tiger Cowrie

The tiger cowrie is a fascinating creature! Its warm colours, together with the dark bands and spots on its shell and mantle, give the tiger cowrie a tiger-like appearance. And with some imagination, it also looks like a rambutan fruit due to the protrusions on its mantle!

Unfortunately, due to their beauty, tiger cowries are frequently collected from the shore by shell-collecting enthusiasts. As a result of overharvesting, the tiger cowrie is sadly listed as “Vulnerable” in Singapore.
