Cheesecake Nudibranch

Although the cheesecake nudibranch may look like a slice of delicious lemon cheesecake, it is actually toxic! It gets its toxins from the sponges that it eats, and it uses these chemical weapons to deter predators.

This captivating nudibranch can often be seen waving its feathery gills back and forth repeatedly. This behaviour may help the cheesecake nudibranch to breathe underwater, as its skin is too thick for it to breathe through its skin effectively.
