Common Spider Conch

The common spider conch got its name from the long spines along the edge of its shell, which apparently resemble spider legs! These mysterious projections may help the common spider conch to balance itself while hopping from one spot to another.

Due to its unique and magnificent shell, the common spider conch is commonly harvested to be used in shell crafts in some countries. Fortunately, common spider conches are doing well in Singapore as their local conservation status has recently improved from “Vulnerable” to “Near-Threatened”.
