Common Whelk

Ever taken a stroll along the beach and seen a few tiny snails moving about your feet? You’re likely seeing the common whelk!

As active scavengers, these creatures are commonly seen scouring among seagrasses and seaweeds for anything they can munch on. When an animal such as a crab or fish dies in the intertidal zone, groups of whelks will immediately gather for the feast!
