Button Snail

Button snails showcase an impressive diversity of patterns and colours in their shells! Not only are they pretty and lustrous, but apparently, every button snail shell is unique! Button snails spend most of their time buried beneath the sand, but when disturbed, many of them may rise to the surface together, forming “rafts” of floating button snails! They are commonly hunted by moon snails and other larger predators.

Sadly, button snail populations have severely declined from the past due to habitat degradation and land reclamation. There is still hope, however, as their conservation status has thankfully improved from “Vulnerable” in 2008 to “Near-Threatened” in 2024.
