Noble Volute

With its stunning shell and elegant body, the noble volute stands out as one of the most gorgeous snails on our shores! But this regal snail is actually a ruthless predator, mercilessly hunting down fellow molluscs such as clams and other snails! With its large body, the noble volute uses its formidable strength to suffocate its prey in its enormous foot. When its exhausted prey is too weak to resist, the noble volute then goes in for the kill.

Noble volutes used to be under threat in Singapore due to habitat loss, pollution and overcollection for its beautifully-patterned shell. Fortunately, the conservation status of Singapore’s noble volutes has improved from “Vulnerable” in 2008 to “Near-Threatened” in 2024.
