Commerson’s Sole

A type of flatfish, the Commerson’s sole is flat like the sole of a shoe or slipper! With its flat and plain-coloured body, it can easily bury and camouflage itself in the sand to ambush prey such as worms, crustaceans and other animals living on or in the seafloor.

This flatfish is edible and fresh, frozen, dried or salted Commerson’s soles can be found in the market. However, this does not mean we should recklessly harvest Commerson’s soles from the shore as overfishing may affect their populations!
