Flower Crab

Flower crabs are commonly eaten as seafood, but did you know that they are actually quite difficult to see in the wild? Though common, these elusive crabs are usually buried in sand or mud or hiding among seagrasses, making spotting them a challenge!

Flower crabs sit in the middle of the intertidal food chain, meaning they help to control the population of smaller sea creatures but are also eaten by bigger predators. Since they are harvested as seafood, their populations need to be carefully monitored to prevent overharvesting!

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Please do not bring back animals from the wild! Read more about the dos and don'ts in the intertidal zone.
