Swimming Anemone

The swimming anemone looks like an adorable pom-pom bobbing up and down in the water! True to its name, this incredible anemone can indeed swim, albeit slowly. It does this by pulsating its tentacles back and forth in a breaststroke-like motion, sort of like a very excited jellyfish! Despite its ability to swim, the swimming anemone is more commonly seen either “resting” on the ground or clinging onto seagrasses or seaweeds on the shore.

Besides being a skilled swimmer, the swimming anemone also has another trick up its sleeve! Like how some lizards can drop their tails to distract and escape from predators, the swimming anemone can also detach some of its tentacles when threatened. Not only can the swimming anemone regrow its lost tentacles, but the shed tentacle itself can also regenerate into a new swimming anemone! Despite their amazing regenerative powers, please do not touch or pick up swimming anemones as you may hurt them in the process!
