Bobtail Squid

Unlike most squids, which tend to look more elongated and slender, bobtail squids are rounder and perhaps cuter too! They look like little adorable balls scooting around the intertidal zone with their little round fins whirring away!

Besides helping them to swim, bobtail squids also use their broad fins as shovels to bury themselves in the sand. Besides concealing them from predators, this burrowing behaviour may also help bobtail squids to ambush their prey!
