White Salmacis Urchin

Like a busy traveller, the white salmacis urchin is frequently spotted carrying a lot of “baggage” on its body. Its “luggage” ranges from shells to seaweeds.

Its “barang-barang” may help the white salmacis urchin to avoid predators by camouflaging with the seagrasses it lives in. The white salmacis urchin may also be carrying these items to protect itself from the sunlight, just like how we tend to wear hats or carry umbrellas in sunny weather. So, if you see white sea urchins covered in random stuff during your intertidal walks, please do not take its belongings away from it!
