Diadema Sea Urchin

The diadema sea urchin can be identified by the 5 bright white dots surrounding its anus in a star-shaped pattern.

With its lengthy, needle-like spines which can extend up to 30cm long, the diadema sea urchin looks very threatening. Indeed, it is wise to be cautious of this ominous-looking sea urchin, as its spines are sharp enough to pierce through clothes, gloves and even some shoes! So, please watch your step when you are exploring the intertidal zone!
