Tiny Brittle Stars

Don’t look down on tiny brittle stars for their small size! Although they may seem miniscule to us, they are actually the perfect size for sheltering inside the tiny holes of sponges and hard corals! By living inside these pores, tiny brittle stars can hide from larger predators while feeding on plankton floating in seawater. So, the next time you come across a sponge or hard coral on your intertidal walks, do take a closer look at it and try to spot any tiny brittle stars living in its pores!
